The Uckermark is centrally located at the Berlin-Szczecin
development axis. It is an attractive business location for
industry, the manufacturing sector, craft and trade. Especially the
manufacturing sector plays a significant role in the region.
The new focus of the Brandenburg state business development
programme provides great opportunities for the Uckermark.
Under the motto “Strengthening strong points“, the economic policy
of the federal state of Brandenburg is aimed at supporting the
development of existing potentials and the enhancement of sectoral
competencies.
Out of the 16 growth industries identified in the programme, nine
are found in the Uckermark: food sector, energy
industry/technology, wood-processing sector, logistics, metal
working and processing/mechatronics, oil refining/biofuels,
plastic/chemical sector, paper industry and tourism. This enables
the region to boost its economic development, to strengthen the
competitiveness of businesses, to improve sectoral competencies, to
develop its innovative advance and to continue its structural
change.
Another effect worth mentioning is the drawing power of the
Schwedt/Oder regional growth centre which enhances the image of the
business location and the whole region.
Economic development is concentrated in three locations:
Schwedt/Oder, Prenzlau and Templin. There is a wide variety of
different industrial and trade parks and industrial real estates
available. The business structure is dominated by mainly small and
medium-sized enterprises (SME).
Four companies figure among the top 100 employers in the federal
state of Brandenburg.
